How much does a wedding in Italy cost?

The spread between the cheapest and dearest region is €5 058 for the same wedding on the same day. Almost all of it is venue hire.

The contract is in euro. Dollars and pounds are the European Central Bank reference rate of 2026-09-23 plus 1.5%, because the mid rate is not one a retail customer can get. What you actually pay depends on your bank on the day, and every supplier invoices you in euro. The rate we convert at.

Per-head cost falls as the wedding grows because venue hire, music and photography are fixed. The final column is what ten more guests cost, divided by ten. One guest on her own is not that figure: the sixtieth opens a table and the eighty-first a coach, so a single extra person costs a few hundred euro most of the time and a few thousand at a threshold. Ten smooths the steps out, which is what makes it a rate.

The multiplier applies to venue hire and to nothing else. Catering, bar, music and photography are the same rate in January as in August, which is why a shoulder-season wedding saves less than most couples expect: hire in August is about 92% dearer than in January, on that line alone.

All twelve rows are a convention, not an observation: they are what we publish against the June rate, and the winter five are the thinnest, because almost nobody in this market publishes a February rate card. That is why no figure here is binding until a planner has confirmed the hire with the property.

Every table above is arithmetic on one reference property. Underneath it we hold 33,648 advertised price bands, gathered 2026-08-06, which resolve into 135 category and region pairs across 19 regions. Each pair is published only at 40 observations or more and states its own sample size, its method and the day it was gathered. Every region and category we can publish.

Our fee: 13% of the first €50 000, then 9% to €100 000, then 5% above that, no minimum

We are paid by you, once, at the end. Suppliers pay us nothing: no commission from the venue, no kickback from the caterer, no preferred-partner fee. That is the whole reason your venue list is ordered by fit and not by who pays us.

The bands are marginal, like income tax: crossing €50 000 costs you 9 cents on the next euro, not a step. Our work is the same 14 to 16 suppliers and 25 deadlines whatever your wedding costs, so the share you pay falls as the wedding grows: 13% at the bottom, 5% at the top.

It used to be a flat 12% with a floor of €3 200 net, and we retired the floor on 9 August 2026 because it bound on almost every small wedding and on no large one. Documents struck before that date still carry the old rule; we do not re-price a quote somebody already holds.

The bands read against the net subtotal. VAT at 22% is added to our line like any other, which is why both columns are here.

Both Italian VAT rates, inside every figure

22% on most lines and 10% on food and drink. The reduced rate applies to 3 of the 19 lines we price: catering, seasonal menu; beverages, aperitivo to close; cake. Nothing is quoted net and then increased at the end.

Currency: the ECB rate plus 1.5%

Rates come from the European Central Bank daily reference set, and the publication date is shown beside any converted figure. We add 1.5% because the ECB mid rate is not a rate a retail customer can get: a bank transfer typically lands two to four per cent off mid and a specialist provider four tenths to one per cent. A bare mid rate would make every converted figure optimistic by around €1 000 on a €50 000 wedding, which a couple would discover at their bank rather than here. The spread is deliberately conservative, so the figure you see is slightly high rather than slightly low. Your contracts are in euro either way.

Where each rate comes from

Most lines on your estimate are our own working figure, the same in every region. Five are not. Where we hold enough advertised prices for a region, 1,111 photographers nationally, for one that line is priced from the middle of what businesses there advertise, multiplied by the figure in this table, because an advertised entry price buys a shorter day than a wedding is. Before the multiplier, that regional middle is pulled toward the national one the fewer figures a region gives us, the harder it is pulled, and how far any region may depart from the country is capped, so that forty advertisements cannot decide what a line costs.

Everything else stays flat across Italy, and two exclusions are deliberate rather than unfinished. Music, ceremony and evening, Beverages, aperitivo to close, Service staff and linen and Guest transport carry no regional figure: music because our line covers two acts and the advertised price covers one, and the rest because they are priced per guest or per coach while every observation we hold is for the whole event. Comparing those two is meaningless, and we would rather say so than publish the comparison.

Every line on your estimate carries one of these, printed on the line. We hold 2,466 venue hire observations: the middle of them is €2 000, the middle half runs €1 000 to €3 000, and the whole range is €300 to €50 000. A figure outside the middle half is not wrong, and a figure outside the whole range is flagged on the estimate rather than quietly printed.
